Although
East Coast hip hop was dominant throughout the late 1980s,
N.W.A.'s Straight Outta Compton presented the toughened sound of
West Coast hip hop, which was accompanied by gritty,
street-level subject matter. In 1992, Dr. Dre's G-Funk record
The Chronic would introduce West Coast hip hop to the
mainstream.
In spite of
G-Funk becoming the most popular variety of hip hop during the
early 1990s, the East Coast hip hop scene remained an integral
part of the music industry. Several New York City rappers rising
from the local underground scene, began releasing dope albums in
the early and mid nineties including Wu-Tang Clan, Nas, Mobb
Deep, Raekwon, Gangstarr and Jay-Z, most of them gaining
outstanding critical acclaim.

All these classic
albums represented the darker, harder hitting side of street
life and this loop pack is a perfect extension of that
philosophy. The drums are punchy and aggressive, the snares
crunch, hi hats rattle and the bass lines have that authentic
mid to low presence that holds the beat together. None of this
matters unless the haunting melodies are in place and the
abstract synth & keyboards bounce alongside the hard driven horn sections.
Finish it off with some old film score loops and turntable
elements and you on the way to Queensbridge heaven.
